Eating your own dog food
“Eating your own dog food” describes the practice of a company using its own products or services.
We asked Björn, the developer of monkkee: Do you use monkkee yourself and, if so, what for?
I developed monkkee because I wanted to record my thoughts, which I used to write down on paper, in a safe place that is really just for myself. In fact, my first entries consisted of transcripts of paper records, which I then disposed of. And then, there was actually a moment when I had to remind myself to use monkkee more myself. Today, I could not imagine life without monkkee. Here are my personal top 5 of how I use monkkee:
Job-related notes
As a software developer, I use monkkee as a space for thoughts that are not yet mature enough to be shared with colleagues. Some of these thoughts will never leave monkkee, others I will later copy into emails or other tools.
Idea generation
Whether for work, in my private life or in the creative field – to me monkkee is the ideal “blank canvas” for developing ideas. Some ideas mature over a longer period of time. In this case, a journal entry will consist of several parts written at different times.
Stop my mind
I’m sure we’ve all caught ourselves in a moment when our head is spinning with different thoughts. Whenever my thoughts go round in circles, the only thing that helps is to write it down. The effect is magical!
Research
I use monkkee to plan and make decisions. A classic example would be a purchase decision, where I list different products, prices, advantages and disadvantages.
Stress relief
Need a place to vent? No problem in monkkee, because this space is all mine. Here, I don’t have to be afraid of choosing the wrong words or using swear words.
