Update: English (US) as a new language variant

The main feature of this update is a new language variant for English (US). It allows monkkee to distinguish English variants more precisely and to respond better to regional spelling, date formats and time formats. Internally, this variant is handled as en_US.

US English as a separate language variant

Until now, English was handled as one general locale in the interface. With English (US), monkkee now provides a dedicated US English variant alongside general English. This makes it possible to separate British and US English more clearly.

Improved browser detection

Automatic language detection has also been improved. A header such as Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9 now activates English (US) instead of falling back to generic English. This allows monkkee to align more closely with the browser's language settings.

Date and time formats that better match the selected locale

As part of the new language support, the formats were refined as well. For English (US), dates are shown in the US-style format with the month before the day. In addition, times for English (US) are now displayed in the 12-hour AM/PM format, consistent with the previous behavior for English-speaking users. English (GB), on the other hand, uses the 24-hour format.

New preview feature in language settings

The locale settings now include a preview for date and time. When users switch the language, they can immediately see how the selected formats will look. This makes the choice easier to understand and helps users find the right locale more quickly.

Smaller wording improvements

British and US spellings across the interface were also cleaned up. As a result, the user interface feels more consistent and better aligned with the selected language variant.
